Pick Me Up Theatre brings the stage version of the classic MGM musical The Wizard of Oz to the Grand Opera House, York.

This version of the show was a huge success when it was first staged by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1987 with Imelda Staunton as Dorothy.

The show is faithful to the screenplay of the 1939 Technicolor classic starring Judy Garland – and features all the wonderful songs like Over The Rainbow, Ding-Dong The Witch Is Dead, If I Only Had A Brain, We’re Off To See The Wizard and The Merry Old Land Of Oz.

The role of Dorothy is shared by Emily Chattle and Anna Hale – and they'll be following the Yellow Brick Road with Stuart Rae as the Scarecrow, Joe McNeice the Tin Man and Nick Lewis the Cowardly Lion.

Nick and Joe appeared together in Spamalot with Pick Me Up at the Grand Opera House – Nick as King Arthur, Joe as Galahad. Nick's other Pick Me Up roles include the title role in Sweeney Todd.

Well-known York actor Ian Giles makes his Pick Me Up debut as the Wizard of Oz, and Pick Me Up regular Adam Sowter (cowardly Sir Robin in Spamalot and Gilbert Chilvers in Betty Blue Eyes) is the Wicked Witch of the West .

Alexandra Mather as Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, is pictured below with some of the marvellous Munchkins.
