THE SECRET DIARY OF ADRIAN MOLE
AGED 13 ¾ THE MUSICAL

Theatre@41 Monkgate, York

Evenings at  7.30pm; Saturday matinees 11 & 18 at 2.30pm

Pick Me Up Theatre returns to the stage with the York premiere of The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole aged 13 ¾ The Musical.

Based on the best-selling books by Sue Townsend, the musical took the theatre world by storm with its London debut at the pioneering Menier Chocolate Factory in 2017 and then the West End in 2019 and was hailed as “a ray of giddy sunshine” by Time Out, with The Guardian saying the show effortlessly recreates the vanished era of the early 80s.

Life is pretty tough when you’re a 13¾-year-old misunderstood intellectual living in a cul-de-sac in 1981. With dysfunctional parents, ungrateful old people and a growing debt to the school bully Barry Kent, Adrian Mole is hardly living his best life.

So when the beautiful and bright new girl Pandora joins his class, Adrian thinks things might just be looking up.  For a moment.  She captures his heart … only for his best friend Nigel to steal hers!

How will this tale of teenage angst and spots, unrequited love and family feuding turn out for our hapless hero?

Get your tickets for our wonderfully-cast production and come and see for yourself.  And as the John Cooper Studio is York’s very own equivalent to the Menier black box theatre – what better place to catch this show?

Don’t miss your chance to see this “bittersweet blast of pre-digital fun that speaks to all ages” (The Times).
