ME AND MY GIRL
Grand Opera House, York
Pick Me Up Theatre bring the much-loved Me and My Girl to York's Grand Opera House with its string of wonderful Noel Gay tunes including the show-stopping Lambeth Walk, one of the most joyful song and dance routines in musical theatre history.
The haughty aristocratic Hareford family are horrified to find that the long-lost heir to the earldom is cheeky Cockney geezer Bill Snibson.
The Duchess sets about trying to transform him into a "fit and proper" gentleman – but what will happen when she demands that he break up with his Lambeth girlfriend Sally?
The show was a huge hit in the West End in the 1980s, running for eight years, and its star Robert Lindsay won the Tony for best actor in a musical when it transferred to Broadway.
The musical – first staged in 1937 and given a makeover by Stephen Fry for the 80s revival – features songs including The Sun Has Got His Hat On and Leaning on a Lamp-post.
