SPAMALOT

Grand Opera House, York

Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot tells the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

Pick Me Up are delighted to bring back the plague to York ... with a 50% chance of pestilence and famine, together with a brace of impossibly beautiful dancing girls, flatulent Frenchmen and monster killer rabbits.

The story begins... Arthur and his faithful and smelly servant Patsy recruit an array of knights to accompany him on his quest, including Sir Bedevere, Sir Robin, Sir Lancelot and Sir Galahad.

Besides the rabbits and farting Frenchman, they meet such characters as the Lady of the Lake, Prince Herbert, Tim the Enchanter, Not Dead Fred, the Black Knight and the Knights who say Ni.

And not forgetting the fantastic tunes by Eric Idle, John Du Prez and Neil Innes including He Is Not Dead Yet, Knights of the Round Table, Find Your Grail, Diva's Lament and, of course, the anthem for British pluck: Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life.

Nick Lewis – who played the title role in Sondheim's Sweeney Todd for Pick Me Up – is King Arthur and Emily Ramsden – last seen with Pick Me Up in Ghost The Musical – is the Lady of the Lake.

George Stagnell – Czolgosz in Sondheim's Assassins – plays Arthur's trusty servant Patsy, Adam Sowter – Gilbert Chilvers in Betty Blue Eyes – is Brave Sir Robin, and Joe McNeice, John Whitney and Andrew Roberts make their Pick Me Up debuts as Dennis Galahad, Lancelot and Bedevere.

Robert Readman directs and Sam Johnson is musical director.
