THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE
@41monkgate, York
Pirates, policemen, petticoats and patter song … Pick Me Up Theatre brings you the lot – in a steam punk package!
The Pirates of Penzance is our first foray into the topsy turvy world of Gilbert and Sullivan and we plan to have some fun with this classic comedy operetta.
Most people will know the songs – I Am The Very Model Of A Modern Major General has been parodied in everything from Family Guy and The Simpsons to Despicable Me and Start Trek: The Next Generation. And everyone sings along to A Policeman's Lot Is Not A Happy One.
Great tunes, a wonderfully daft plot and a stage full of swashbuckling pirates and corseted lovelies à la Jules Verne – who could resist?
Sam Hird will be heading back up from the Royal College of Music to play the Pirate King and the cast is packed with wonderful Pick Me Up favourites like Alexandra Mather, Emma Louise Dickinson, Andrew Roberts, Finn East, Frankie Bounds, Flo Poskitt, Andrew Isherwood, Niamh Rose and Matthew Kitchen. We welcome superb York talents Ed Atkin, Kayleigh Oliver, Nick Sephton, Ryan Smith and Tim Selman.
Postponed: Sadly we have had to postpone this production because of Government advice on the coronavirus outbreak
