KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN
Kander and Ebb's Kiss of the Spider Woman takes a harrowing tale of persecution and turns it into a dazzling musical that combines gritty realities with liberating fantasies.
Molina is a gay window dresser serving an eight-year sentence in a Latin American prison after being accused of corrupting a minor. He survives by living in a fantasy world of movies, most of them starring his idol Aurora.
Valentin, a tough Marxist revolutionary, is brought into the prison, where he's beaten, tortured and thrown into Molina's cell.
Molina shares his fantasies about Aurora – originated on Broadway by Chita Rivera – with Valentin.
One of her roles is a Spider Woman who kills with a kiss.
